How to Find Aircraft Mechanic Jobs Online

Don’t know where to find aviation jobs?

Finding jobs these days has never been easier because of this thing called the Internet. Many aviation companies are now posting their jobs online which makes it easier for everyone to look for opportunities.

But how come many people, especially new graduates, even veteran Aircraft Mechanics, are finding it so hard to land a job by just searching online? To be honest, our findings are not that surprising:

For new graduates: Online job searching is not typically included in school’s training and programs in the Philippines. That’s why new grads don’t have any exposure in this basic, yet very useful subject.

For veteran Aircraft Mechanics: Using online platforms is not too familiar with them since they are used to doing it all thru walk-in applications, and heavily relying on email job applications.

To address these problems, we created very simple solutions showing you how to use the internet as one of your primary go-to for your job search needs. If you follow these easy steps, you will discover how an overwhelming challenge like finding a job can transform into an effortless experience.

#1: Using the Internet to Your Advantage

The Internet provides you with many options and tools for a comprehensive job search. Employers increasingly use the Internet as a recruiting tool so learning how to navigate it for job-seeking purposes is very crucial.

Here are some of its primary advantages:

  • Post your résumé and apply online for positions.
  • Access timely job notices around the clock.
  • Research companies, organizations, and agencies.

What are the most common mediums for online application?

  1. Job-search apps. This will allow job seekers to search discreetly for positions anytime, anywhere and respond to postings quickly. Some apps help with organizing the job search process, alerting job seekers to compatible positions, and can even upload and send résumés to recruiters.
  2. Company websites. A direct way of submitting a job application can be done through the employer’s website. Most of them have a built-in feature where you can create a profile and choose from a list of job postings to apply to. This can be typically found in the “Career” section.
  3. Emails. Some employers only provide the job description and leave their contact information when they post a job. This is when sending an email becomes applicable.

#2: Online Career Profile Building: 10 Pro Tips

Anyone with an email can open an online profile. Free to premium platforms are all over the internet. But even though the technology has been here for quite some time, many Filipinos still struggle to take advantage of online platforms available today.

Is it hard to do? Does it cost a lot? Does it need any special skills? Actually not. The main problem is familiarity. Most new grads aren’t familiar with it at all. They’re not equipped with the proper know-hows in building online career profiles.

Out of 100+ interviews we’ve done so far, a staggering 80% of Filipino aviation new grads are not even aware that these options are available for them.

We’re going to change that today.

Tip No. 1: Just do it already! It’s easy.

This part is pretty straightforward. Choose from thousands of different job-search apps and websites (as previously shown), and explore what suits you best. Most of these platforms have a built-in guide and instructions on how to create one.

It’ll only take a minute to create one so just do it already. Type in your browser “job-search apps” and press enter. Then explore, choose one, and create a profile – as easy as one, two, three.

Tip No. 2: It’s like a resume, but online.

If you’ve experienced creating a resume, then it’s the same thing. Online platforms may require you to fill in more information, but it’s not a reason to feel overwhelmed. Focus on the required fields first and tackle the rest only if you have to.

The same rules apply. Keep it simple and full of keywords.

Tip No. 3: Create an Email Address dedicated for jobs only.

Don’t mix your personal email address with your professional one. It will make things easier especially when managing your job applications.

Plus, if you create multiple accounts on different job-search platforms, it’s vital to see all those notifications under one email address only. Using two or more email addresses will only make things messier and unorganized.

Tip No. 4: Don’t stick with a single platform.

Online job application is almost similar to online selling. Only this time, you’re selling yourself to employers. And just like online selling, you want your product to be seen on almost all online platforms.

The more views you’ll get, the more chances you’re gonna get a call for an interview. So don’t just stop with one platform. Create as many as you can on different apps and websites.

Tip No. 5: It’s not Facebook or Instagram.

There’s a very thin line between sharing stuff about your life and presenting yourself professionally. For this part, you should focus more on the latter. There’s nothing bad about showing your activities and interest to the public. Just do it at the right place.

Career online profiles are all about being seen as a respectable and reliable professional. Though some personal interests connected to the job you want might be helpful, you have to make sure that what’s on your profile is really worth sharing.

Things to avoid when creating career profiles:

  • Selfies and informal profile pictures.
  • Unrelated skill entries like sport and recreational skills (i.e. break dancing).
  • Unconnected personal interests and hobbies (i.e. playing the violin).
  • Previous job experiences that are unrelated (i.e. restaurant chef).
  • Achievements from unrelated fields (i.e. Basketball Champions 2020).

Things you can include when creating career profiles:

  • Formal profile pic.
  • Professional skill entries (i.e. Aircraft Inspection).
  • Interest and activities involving aviation (i.e. seminars and training).
  • Aviation-related job experiences if not as AMT (i.e. Aviation Instructor).
  • Academic and career experiences (i.e. Dean’s List 2020).

Tip No. 6: Write your name properly.

It may sound like we’re joking. But according to statistics, many people get this part wrong. Look at these examples:

  • Mr. Jose Manalo
  • Engr. Wally Bayola
  • Bossing Vic Sotto - AMT

Recruiters might want to find you by typing in your full name in the search panel. If you put any academic or professional titles next to your name, chances are your profile won’t appear in the search results. Just write your full name without any extras.

  • Jose Manalo
  • Wally Bayola
  • Vic Sotto

Tip No. 7: Maximize your headline.

Most online platforms today have allotted space for headlines. Make sure you can grab the recruiter’s attention by maximizing this part.

Example of a headline if with experience:

  • Aircraft Maintenance Technician | A320 and A330 Aircraft | Airframe
and Powerplant | CAAP Licensed Mechanic | 2 Years Experience

Example of a headline if without experience:

  • Structural Repair Technician Apprentice | Sheet Metal Airframe Repair |
SRM Oriented | CAAP Licensed | BS in Aircraft Maintenance Technology

Tip No. 8: Choosing the right Keyword Skills.

Though including a lot of skills on your profile may seem like a good idea, putting too many than what’s necessary is not advisable. Try to limit it to 5 entries max.  You will also want to make sure that these are keyword skills.

Best Keyword Skills for AMT:

  • Aircraft Maintenance
  • Aircraft Mechanic
  • Aircraft Technician
  • Repair
  • Aviation
  • Airframe
  • Powerplant
  • Airworthiness

Tip No. 9: Build your Experience Section.

Concise but full of contents – that’s what you’re aiming for in this section:

  • Include all experiences like OJT and training (for new grads only).
  • Underneath each job, include approximately 3-5 bullet points describing the scope of your responsibilities.
  • Don’t write only about your duties. Focus on your achievements. Don’t just show recruiters what you did. Highlight how well you handled it.

Tip No. 10: Uploading your credentials.

This is where scanning and storing your important documents beforehand becomes very useful. A lot of these online platforms are built with features that will enable you to attach digital files to your profile. So do your best to get the most out of it.

Just make sure that you have all your files ready and organized. It would greatly help you lessen the time needed in completing this section.

What’s next after finishing an online profile?

You have done your part. Now, it’s time to release your profile to the world wide web. Let all aviation company recruiters see the professional side of you.

  • They will find you. This is the best out of all the scenarios. Companies will be sending their invitation for interviews. This means you’ve created a monster profile that they cannot resist.
  • Search for jobs. Find different job opportunities within the app or website. Recruiters usually provide links in their posts that contain the next steps for the job application. If only an email address is provided, then you have to compose an email and reach out to the recruiter.

#3: Job-search Keywords for AMT New Grads

For new AMT and AVT graduates with little to no experience, use the following keywords when searching for jobs in any online apps or company websites to get more suitable results for your level.

  1. Apprentice/Apprenticeship

(format: SKILL + KEYWORD) —> Sheet Metal Technician Apprentice
  2. Entry Level

(format: SKILL + KEYWORD) —> Aircraft Mechanic Entry Level
  3. Junior

(format: KEYWORD +SKILL) —> Junior Aircraft Avionics
  4. Helper

(format: KEYWORD +SKILL) —> Aircraft Helper Mechanic
  5. Assistant

(format: KEYWORD +SKILL) —> Assistant Aircraft Cabin Mechanic

Mission accomplished? Not yet.

As an aspiring aircraft mechanic, knowing where to find a job is indeed a big leap forward. But unfortunately, it doesn’t end here yet.

You will still have to monitor your job applications, follow up on any recruiter’s request, constantly update your online profile, and more. Yes, it’s a hassle and sometimes, it could be frustrating too – especially if you’re not getting the results that you have been expecting.

But hey, don’t feel discouraged. Even experienced Aircraft Mechanics like us don’t always get the job that we want at our first try. Same as you, we get frustrated too. But it’s all part of the game. We’ve been there – and we can assure you, you’re dreams can be just a few clicks away.

Apply for that job and be patient. It’s online. It’s unlimited.

Take advantage.
